CME Group and Silicon Data announced on August 11 plans to launch two compute futures contracts on October 5, 2026, pending regulatory approval. The contracts, based on Silicon Data's hourly GPU rental indices for Nvidia's H100 and B200 chips, will list on CME under NYMEX rules. They aim to help AI developers and cloud providers hedge compute costs and assess industry capital expenditure.

US-based CME Group and Silicon Data announced on August 11 that they plan to launch two compute futures contracts on October 5, 2026. The contracts will be listed on CME and governed by New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) rules, with listing subject to regulatory approval. Silicon Data, a GPU market analytics and benchmarking firm, is backed by global trading company DRW. The two contracts are the Silicon Data H100 rental index futures and the Silicon Data B200 rental index futures, both tracking Silicon Data's hourly GPU rental cost index. Each contract corresponds to one month's rental of Nvidia's H100 and the next-generation Nvidia Blackwell B200 GPUs, with the H100 currently serving as the core chip in the AI ecosystem. Compute refers to the processing power and hardware infrastructure required to train and run AI models. As demand for AI compute continues to grow and price volatility intensifies, companies building AI infrastructure have long lacked corresponding risk management tools. Once these futures are launched, market participants such as AI developers and large cloud service providers can use them to lock in compute procurement costs, while the market can also gauge the scale of future industry AI capital expenditure.
