On August 27, after Netflix aired an extended gameplay demonstration of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), pre-orders for the game rose 436% compared with the previous day. The momentum continued into August 28, bringing the two-day cumulative increase to 572%, a substantial jump from the average daily level of the preceding 30 days.

By platform, PlayStation 5 accounted for the bulk of the surge. On August 27 alone, pre-orders for the PS5 version climbed 606%, while the Xbox Series X|S version saw a 127% increase. Since tracking of GTA 6 pre-orders began in June 2026, PS5 has consistently outpaced Xbox. The tracking effort started shortly after Rockstar officially opened pre-orders for the game.

Current estimates put global cumulative pre-orders for GTA 6 at approximately 4.86 million units, corresponding to nearly $476 million in value. Of that total, PlayStation buyers represent about 77%. Take-Two has not confirmed specific sales figures.

Since the release of the early GTA 6 trailer, Rockstar has tightly controlled the public rollout of gameplay footage. The 26-minute video shown on Netflix has had a notable impact on pre-order data.
