Hong Kong-listed coal stocks advanced in the afternoon session on August 6, with Mongolian Energy surging over 9%, Jinma Energy up over 7%, and Yankuang Energy and Liliang Development each gaining over 6%. Market data showed the thermal coal price index was raised across the board on August 5, with 5,500 kcal thermal coal quoted at RMB 839 per tonne, up RMB 5 from the prior session. Under the 2025 anti-involution policy curbing coal over-capacity production, combined with tighter safety supervision and production halts at some mines, domestic thermal coal supply is expected to remain constrained in the second half of 2026, supporting coal prices and company earnings.

On August 6, Hong Kong coal stocks advanced in the afternoon session, with Mongolian Energy rising over 9%, Jinma Energy up over 7%, and Yankuang Energy and Liliang Development each gaining over 6%. Market data showed that the thermal coal price index was raised across the board on August 5, with 5,500 kcal thermal coal quoted at RMB 839 per tonne, up RMB 5 from the previous trading day.

Against the backdrop of the 2025 anti-involution policy strictly curbing coal over-capacity production, combined with systematically tightened safety supervision and production halts at some mines for rectification, the supply-side production contraction trend for domestic thermal coal is set to continue in the second half of 2026. These factors have jointly driven coal prices to remain firm, underpinning profitability for coal companies.
