Hong Kong Stocks Fall for Fifth Straight Day as Hang Seng Drops 0.95%
Hong Kong equities declined for a fifth consecutive session on September 11, 2026, with the Hang Seng Index opening 0.95% lower at 24,718.15 and the Hang Seng Tech Index down 1.36% at 4,271.73. At the midday close, the Hang Seng was down 0.85%, the Tech Index 0.79% and the China Enterprises Index 0.46%. Jiangxi Copper fell more than 8%, while COMEX gold futures dropped 2.29% to USD 4,358.5 an ounce.
On September 11, 2026, Hong Kong's three main indices all fell. At the midday close, the Hang Seng Index was down 0.85%, the Hang Seng Tech Index down 0.79% and the China Enterprises Index down 0.46%. Advancers numbered 512, decliners 1,600 and unchanged stocks 1,170. Hong Kong stocks have now fallen for five consecutive trading days this week. At the morning open, the Hang Seng Index stood at 24,718.15, down 236.32 points or 0.95%, while the Hang Seng Tech Index opened at 4,271.73, down 58.76 points or 1.36%.
Internet stocks were mixed. Bilibili-W fell 1.81%, Xiaomi Group-W rose 1.23%, Kuaishou-W fell 1.14%, Tencent Holdings rose 1.03%, NetEase fell 0.87%, Alibaba-W fell 0.47%, Baidu Group-W fell 0.28% and Meituan-W rose 0.20%. Storage-concept stocks opened lower, with the CSOP Samsung Electronics 2x Long falling more than 6%. Automobile stocks continued to weaken, with XPeng down more than 2%.
Nonferrous metals stocks declined. Jiangxi Copper fell 10.65%, China Molybdenum 10.03%, MMG 9.46%, Zijin Mining 7.55%, China Hongqiao 4.69%, Shandong Gold 4.53%, Lingbao Gold 4.37% and Zijin Gold International 4.26%. Gold stocks also weakened, with Tongguan Gold down 4.21%, Zhaojin Mining 4.19%, China Gold International 3.54% and Chifeng Gold 2.64%. Overnight, COMEX gold futures fell 2.29% to USD 4,358.5 an ounce, while spot gold dropped 1.94% to USD 4,316.76 an ounce.
Property developers declined. Sun Hung Kai Properties fell 7.88%, Sunac China 5.22%, Longfor Group 4.50%, China Vanke 4.26%, China Resources Land 3.14%, China Overseas Land & Investment 2.43%, Henderson Land Development 2.02% and CK Asset Holdings 0.79%. New World Development fell more than 4% and China Jinmao more than 3%.
Most semiconductor stocks fell. Biren Technology dropped 7.20%, Montage Technology 5.99%, GigaDevice 5.96%, Innoscience 5.62%, Iluvatar CoreX 5.36%, Hua Hong Semiconductor 2.92% and SMIC 1.73%, while Changguang Chenxin rose 0.20%. Securities and brokerage stocks weakened, with China Securities down 3.42%, China Galaxy 2.76%, Orient Securities 2.61%, GF Securities 2.53%, HTSC 2.50%, Guotai Haitong 2.33% and CICC 1.96%, while Guofu Quantum rose 0.87%.
Among individual stocks, Zhongji Innolight rose 2.5% after new US FCC rules took effect without listing Chinese optical module companies. Jiangxi Copper fell nearly 11% after the White House copper tariff plan was reported to have stalled and international copper prices plunged on Thursday. Huayan Robotics surged more than 31% as Huayan formally entered the Stock Connect this week. Laopu Gold fell more than 5% again, with second-quarter results affected by lower gold prices. Chervon Holdings jumped more than 22% on heavy volume after appointing former Techtronic Industries executive Joseph Galli Jr as chief executive. Sun Hung Kai Properties fell more than 7% after results showed underlying profit for fiscal 2026 rose 4.6% year on year. Changfeng Pharmaceutical rose more than 7% after clinical approvals for multiple indications of ICF001, with the company set to accelerate Phase I studies in China and overseas. TYK Medicines-B rose nearly 6% after its chairman increased his stake and an innovative EGFR-TKI was approved. Dmall rose more than 5% after controlling shareholder Zhang Wenzhong raised his stake, with first-half AI retail core solutions performing strongly. Axera rose more than 6% after recently launching its M9 series of high-level intelligent driving chips.
CIDI rose more than 6%, driven by policy support for autonomous mining and the company's heavy-duty physical AI and overseas expansion.
