Hang Seng Opens Down 0.6%, Tech Index 0.29%; Lenovo Up 3.17%, Tencent Down 3.29%

Hong Kong stocks opened lower on August 13, 2026, with the Hang Seng Index down 0.6% and the Tech Index down 0.29%, before paring losses. Tencent fell 3.29% after reporting an 8.5% rise in adjusted profit, while Lenovo gained 3.17%. By mid-morning, the Hang Seng was down 0.19%, the HSCEI down 0.26%, and the Tech Index up 0.34%. US inflation data was moderate, and the Golden Dragon Index fell 2.38%. Semiconductor stocks rallied, while resource stocks declined.

The Hang Seng Index opened 152 points lower at 25,288 on August 13, 2026, then gradually narrowed losses and briefly turned positive to a high of 25,456. As of 10:23 a. m. , the index stood at 25,392, down 47 points or 0.19%. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 21 points or 0.26% to 8,424, while the Hang Seng Tech Index turned positive, up 16 points or 0.34% at 4,792. US core inflation data for July was moderate, the Golden Dragon Index fell 2.38%, and the Hang Seng had previously declined for two consecutive sessions, losing a cumulative 497 points.

Tencent Holdings reported a 8.5% rise in second-quarter adjusted profit. Its shares opened down 3.3% at HK$446.4, with losses narrowing to about 3% to HK$447.8. Other tech stocks were mixed: Alibaba rose 1% to HK$123.8, Meituan fell 0.1% to HK$91.6, Xiaomi dropped 0.9% to HK$26.12, JD. com gained 0.7% to HK$123.8, Baidu advanced 1.8% to HK$103.8, and NetEase opened up 1.2% at HK$194.8.

The semiconductor sector strengthened: SMIC rose 3% to HK$69.4, Hua Hong gained 3.9% to HK$148.4, and ASAPT climbed 6.5% to HK$180.5. Resource stocks came under pressure: Chalco fell 5.4% to HK$6.565, and China Hongqiao dropped 4.9% to HK$23.24, making it the worst-performing blue chip.

HSBC rose 0.8% to HK$161.9. Pop Mart gained 2.3% to HK$154.4 on increased shareholder stake, while Lenovo advanced 5.6% to HK$30.68, the best-performing blue chip. In early trading, the market showed a pattern of opening lower and then recovering, with tech and semiconductor stocks providing the main support.
