WuXi Biologics (02269) rose 4.6% to HKD 49.1; its affiliate WuXi AppTec (02359) gained 4.9% to HKD 198.2, making them the two best-performing blue chips at the time. Sino Biopharmaceutical (01177) agreed to acquire a 5% stake in Chia Tai Tianqing for RMB 4.48 billion, and its shares rose 3.6% to HKD 5.44; Hansoh Pharmaceutical (03692) gained 4% to HKD 34.02.

Technology and internet stocks showed mixed performance. Alibaba (09988) fell 1.4% to HKD 106; Tencent (00700) rose 0.7% to HKD 433.4; Meituan (03690) slipped 0.3% to HKD 74.9; Xiaomi (01810) gained 2.8% to HKD 27.08; JD. com (09618) edged up 0.1% to HKD 106.3; and Baidu (09888) rose 1.2% to HKD 90.15.
