On September 14, 2026, Hong Kong's technology index came under pressure. OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman said the company would not pursue an IPO in 2026 and would prioritize addressing technology risks. Hong Kong-listed computing-power chain sectors, including PCB, optical communications and storage, weakened. Lenovo Group (00992. HK) rose more than 5% at one point during the session and ended the day up 4.47%.

A report released by market research firm IDC showed that global server vendor revenue reached USD 166.3 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up 52.0% year on year and 35.7% quarter on quarter, surpassing the previous peak of USD 125.3 billion set in the fourth quarter of 2025. Lenovo ranked third worldwide with a 5.1% revenue share, as sales revenue rose 99.6% year on year, the second-fastest growth among the top five vendors after Dell.

Global server shipments rose 15.4% year on year in the second quarter of 2026. Prices for memory chips such as DRAM and NAND Flash remained elevated, and supply chain bottlenecks forced downstream players to accelerate stockpiling, pushing up overall average selling prices. GPU-accelerated server shipments fell 10.8% year on year, while the average selling price per unit rose from about USD 118,600 to nearly USD 170,200, an increase of 43.6% year on year. Sales for this category grew 28.1% to USD 87.4 billion. Sales of other types of accelerated servers rose 237.6% year on year to USD 27.5 billion. The average price of general-purpose conventional servers rose from about USD 9,800 to nearly USD 13,000, an increase of 33.5%, while shipments grew 16.7% year on year and total sales exceeded USD 10.4 billion.

The scarcity of power supply, efficient cooling and data center power distribution capacity is gradually becoming apparent. As supply chain pressure persists, corporate procurement strategies are shifting toward rush installations and locking in capacity ahead of schedule. IDC research noted that the focus of AI computing power procurement is accelerating its spread to specialized cloud service providers, sovereign AI projects backed by public capital, and traditional enterprises that have begun deploying agents and inference tasks at scale.

On September 11, 2026, Dell Technologies shares rose 11.98% in a single day, closing at a record high of USD 567.29. Year to date in 2026, Dell has gained more than 354%, ranking third among S&P 500 constituents by gain.
