Pharma/biotech sector up 1.92% last week, ranked third; WuXi AppTec hits new high
During the week of August 10-14, the A-share pharmaceutical and biotech sector rose 1.92% cumulatively, ranking third in weekly gains among the 31 Shenwan primary industry sectors. Over the same period, the Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.33% and the CSI 300 Index fell 0.61%, both recording weekly declines. The sector's year-to-date gain has turned positive.
By sub-sector, pharmaceutical commerce and medical services led the week's gains, each rising more than 4.6%. Biological products gained 3.27% for the week. Medical devices and chemical pharmaceuticals posted weekly gains of slightly less than 1%. Traditional Chinese medicine was the only pharmaceutical sub-sector to close lower for the week, with a weekly decline of 0.27%.
