QFII Holdings in A-Shares Surge 87% to RMB 272.8 Billion in Q2
As of August 27, 2026, 1,102 of 3,872 A-share companies reporting interim results had QFII investors among their top ten circulating shareholders. Total QFII holdings rose about 35% quarter-on-quarter to 10.09 billion shares, with market value up over 87% to RMB 272.81 billion. Semiconductor and other tech sectors led the increase. Nine QFII institutions held over RMB 10 billion each, and the number of licensed QFII institutions reached 999.
As of the evening of August 27, 2026, among 3,872 A-share listed companies that had published their 2026 interim reports, 1,102 companies had qualified foreign institutional investors (QFII) appear on their lists of top ten circulating shareholders. Combined QFII shareholdings amounted to approximately 10.092 billion shares, up about 35% from 7.503 billion shares at the end of the first quarter. The total market value of these holdings reached RMB 272.814 billion, an increase of more than 87% from RMB 145.465 billion at the end of the first quarter. Among these, 95 stocks had QFII holdings exceeding 3% of circulating shares.
In terms of existing positions, Shengyi Technology, Bank of Ningbo, Bank of Nanjing, and CATL were the stocks with the highest QFII market values, each exceeding RMB 10 billion. QFII held a combined 295 million shares of Shengyi Technology, with a market value of about RMB 51.155 billion, and 27.3666 million shares of CATL, valued at RMB 10.755 billion. UBS appeared on CATL's top ten circulating shareholders list for the first time since its 2018 annual report, ranking eighth.
By industry, QFII increased holdings broadly across semiconductors, chemicals, electrical equipment, and hardware equipment. In the second quarter, QFII added to positions in Shengyi Technology, Luxshare Precision, Zijin Mining, Hongfa Technology, and Sinocera, with each increase exceeding RMB 1 billion. Shengyi Technology reported first-half revenue of RMB 19.026 billion, up 50.05% year-on-year, and net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB 3.287 billion, up 130.42%. Luxshare Precision posted revenue of RMB 174.504 billion, up 40.16%, and net profit of RMB 7.843 billion, up 18.04%. Zijin Mining's revenue was RMB 194.178 billion, up 15.78%, with net profit of RMB 39.170 billion, up 68.17%. Hongfa Technology's revenue reached RMB 11.022 billion, up 32.05%, and net profit was RMB 1.156 billion, up 19.89%.
Among institutional holders, nine QFII institutions had market values exceeding RMB 10 billion. Hong Kong Wai Wah Electronics Co. , Ltd. and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited ranked first and second, with market values of RMB 51.155 billion and RMB 39.243 billion, respectively. Each held only one stock: Wai Wah held 295 million shares of Shengyi Technology, ranking third among top ten circulating shareholders, while OCBC held over 1.3 billion shares of Bank of Ningbo, ranking second. UBS and Goldman Sachs International each held over RMB 30 billion in market value, BNP Paribas over RMB 20 billion, and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Morgan Stanley International, J. P. Morgan Securities, and Goldman Sachs Group each held over RMB 10 billion. Additionally, seven QFII institutions held more than 100 securities each, with Goldman Sachs International, UBS, and Goldman Sachs Group holding 419, 319, and 313 A-share securities, respectively.
The number of QFII institutions continued to expand. According to the qualified foreign investor list released by the China Securities Regulatory Commission in mid-August 2026, nine institutions, including Engis Pension Private Limited and Lingotto Investment Management LLP, were granted qualified foreign investor status in July 2026. The total number of QFII institutions in the market now stands at 999.
