Shanghai Index Falls 0.82%; Margin Balance Rises to RMB 2,663.3 Billion

Shanghai's benchmark index fell 0.82% on August 11, while total margin financing and securities lending balances rose to RMB 2,663.3 billion, up RMB 1.17 billion from the prior session. Basic chemicals led sector gains with RMB 1.33 billion in new financing. Among 1,961 stocks with higher margin balances, 219 gained more than 5%. Wanbang Pharmaceutical posted the largest increase at 99.53%, with its shares up 20%. Shiji Information recorded the steepest decline at 33.36%.

The Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.82% on August 11, with total margin financing and securities lending balances reaching RMB 2,663.3 billion, up RMB 1.17 billion from the previous trading day. Shanghai-listed margin balances stood at RMB 1,366.8 billion, up RMB 211 million; Shenzhen-listed margin balances reached RMB 1,288.2 billion, up RMB 957 million; and Beijing Stock Exchange margin balances totaled RMB 8.33 billion, up RMB 4.43 million.

Under the Shenwan industry classification, 19 sectors recorded increases in margin financing balances, with basic chemicals posting the largest rise of RMB 1.33 billion. Pharmaceutical and biotechnology and communications sectors saw margin balances increase by RMB 761 million and RMB 660 million, respectively.

Among individual stocks, 1,961 stocks recorded gains in margin financing balances, accounting for 50.99% of the total, with 219 stocks seeing increases exceeding 5%. Wanbang Pharmaceutical posted the largest gain, with its margin balance rising 99.53% to RMB 198 million from the previous session, and its shares surging 20% on the day. Nuosige and Jinan Protein saw margin balance increases of 65.57% and 52.88%, respectively. The top 20 stocks by margin balance gains rose an average of 1.66% on the day, with Wanbang Pharmaceutical, Chengda Pharmaceutical and Nuosige among the leaders, while Yutong Bus, North Changlong and Wuzhou Medical posted the steepest declines.

A total of 1,880 stocks saw margin balances decline, 154 of which fell more than 5%. Shiji Information posted the steepest drop, with its margin balance falling 33.36% to RMB 267 million from the previous session. Yikun Electric and Xinzhi Bio saw margin balances decline 30.03% and 22.59%, respectively.

On the Beijing Stock Exchange, as of August 11, total margin financing and securities lending balances came to RMB 8.33 billion, up RMB 4.43 million from the previous session. Margin financing balances totaled RMB 8.33 billion, up RMB 4.43 million, marking a second consecutive session of gains, while securities lending balances fell RMB 2,800 to RMB 64,400. On the day, margin buying on the exchange amounted to RMB 571 million, with securities lending volume at 10,200 shares. Stocks with the largest net margin selling were Hongshida, Kaide Quartz and Jinbo Bio, with net selling of RMB 17.39 million, RMB 9.75 million and RMB 9.07 million, respectively.
