Strong corporate quarterly earnings drove the Dow Jones Industrial Average up about 390 points. As of 11:10 p. m. Hong Kong time, the Dow stood at 52,600, up 390 points, or 0.75%; the S&P 500 was at 7,410, down 3 points, or 0.04%; and the Nasdaq was at 24,769, down 162 points, or 0.65%. The company raised its full-year earnings per share forecast.

In European markets, the UK FTSE 100 was at 10,871, up 89 points, or 0.83%; the German DAX was at 25,409, up 48 points, or 0.19%; the French CAC 40 was at 8,452, up 46 points, or 0.56%; and the Italian FTSE MIB was at 51,614, down 440 points, or 0.85%.
