Shenzhen Bourse to Launch ChiNext Chip Index on Sept 4

Shenzhen Securities Information Co. has scheduled the release of the ChiNext Chip Index for September 4, 2026. The index, coded 970096, reflects price movements of ChiNext-listed companies in the chip sector. Its sample is drawn from ChiNext stocks whose business involves semiconductor materials and equipment, chip design, chip manufacturing, and chip packaging and testing, selecting the top 50 by average total market capitalization over the most recent six months.

On the same day, the ChiNext Industrial Machinery Index (code 970099) and the ChiNext AI Application Index (code 970095) will also be launched. All three thematic indices select 50 ChiNext stocks with large market capitalization and good liquidity within their respective business areas. The industrial machinery index focuses on specialized machinery equipment, industrial control systems, and machine tools; the AI application index targets model development, industry applications, and intelligent terminals; and the chip index covers the full industry chain from design and manufacturing to packaging and testing.

The ChiNext board has cultivated a number of representative companies in industrial machinery, AI applications, and chips, with the relevant market capitalizations reaching approximately RMB 900 billion, RMB 800 billion, and RMB 1.4 trillion, respectively. Industrial machinery companies on the ChiNext board account for more than 80 percent of the market value of their peers on the same board. In recent years, the "ChiNext Series" index family has formed a system covering broad-based, thematic, and strategy indices, with tracking products exceeding RMB 200 billion in scale. Since July, four indices—ChiNext Communications, ChiNext Intelligent Driving, ChiNext Robotics, and ChiNext Photovoltaic—have been launched. With the addition of the three new indices, the thematic index system has been further expanded. Recently, 16 ChiNext Series ETFs have been approved for filing.
