Tenri High School Wins Nara Final 8-0, Secures Summer Koshien Berth
Tenri High School defeated Nara Daifu 8-0 in the final of the 108th National High School Baseball Championship Nara tournament on July 27, securing its second consecutive and 31st overall appearance in the summer Koshien tournament. The spring prefectural champion built a 2-0 lead in the first inning on consecutive doubles by Kinnimoto and Sekimura, and Sekimura added a three-run homer in the sixth. Ace pitcher Nagao threw a complete-game shutout, while Nara Daifu starter Shinshiro allowed 12 hits and 8 runs in 6-plus innings.
The final of the 108th National High School Baseball Championship Nara tournament was held on July 27 at Sotoguni Stadium in Kashihara. Spring prefectural champion and seeded team Tenri, dominating both offense and defense, defeated Nara Daifu 8-0, earning their second consecutive and 31st overall appearance in the summer Koshien tournament. The national tournament will open on August 5 at Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture.
The two teams faced each other in the final for the first time since Reiwa 2 (2020), when Tenri won 6-4 in a prefecture-only tournament held during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was also Tenri's first final victory over Nara Daifu in six years. In the first inning, Tenri took a 2-0 lead on consecutive two-run doubles by fourth batter Kinnimoto and fifth batter Sekimura. In the sixth, Sekimura hit a three-run home run that struck the scoreboard in center field. In the seventh, third batter Nagai's timely single and Kinnimoto's timely double extended the lead further. On the mound, ace Nagao controlled the game in key moments, throwing a complete-game shutout over nine innings.
Nara Daifu starter Shinshiro allowed 12 hits, struck out four, and gave up eight runs before being pulled with one out in the seventh inning. Nara Daifu's lineup advanced runners into scoring position in the first, fifth, and sixth innings but failed to deliver a timely hit and could not support their ace. Shinshiro threw 105 pitches in the final. Over the course of the Nara tournament, he faced strong teams including Takada Sho, Chiben Gakuen, and Koriyama, throwing a total of 351 pitches across three games and helping his team advance through a competitive region. Shinshiro, who stands approximately 190 centimeters tall and throws a fastball of up to 150 kilometers per hour, is regarded as a potential prospect attracting attention from professional baseball scouts.
