Pentagon Pledges Nearly $170 Billion to Accelerate Patriot, THAAD and Submarine Production
The Pentagon has pledged nearly $170 billion to accelerate production of Patriot missiles, THAAD interceptors and submarines. Lockheed Martin’s Patriot contract grew to almost $59 billion, and a multi-year THAAD deal is initially valued at $35 billion, both over seven years. The awards signal a shift to multi-year procurement, a reform started by Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg in 2025. Further expansion requires congressional approval; some lawmakers question the $1.5 trillion defense budget. Urgency has risen since the U. S. -Iran war broke out in February 2026. The Navy described its submarine contract as a once-in-a-generation fleet overhaul that includes infrastructure upgrades at two shipyards.
