Amazon's Shopping Alexa Adds Scam Detection to Verify Billions of Messages

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

Amazon has introduced a scam-detection feature in its shopping AI, Shopping Alexa, allowing users to ask whether Amazon-related messages are genuine. The system compares messages against billions sent by Amazon and analyzes sender details, content, timing, and metadata. It targets fake order confirmations, Prime renewal alerts, account suspension warnings, delivery notices, and recruitment scams. Amazon also launched [email protected] in early 2026 for email verification.

Amazon has announced a new scam-detection feature for its shopping AI service, Shopping Alexa. Users can now ask the AI directly to determine whether an Amazon-related message is genuine. Amazon noted that around 360,000 consumers contact customer service each year to inquire about messages. With the new feature, users can delegate such questions to the AI.

The system compares the message in question against billions of messages Amazon has sent globally, analyzing factors such as sender information, message content, timing, and metadata to confirm whether the message originated from Amazon's systems. As users continue to submit suspicious messages and provide feedback, the system's ability to identify scams will improve. The feature primarily targets scams such as fake order confirmations, Prime renewal reminders, account suspension warnings, package delivery notifications, and recruitment fraud.

Earlier in 2026, Amazon activated the email address [email protected], allowing users to forward suspicious emails for verification. The customer service website also offers a similar online form. Shopping Alexa can currently find deals based on user preferences, create shopping guides, assist with reordering everyday items, generate AI product overviews, and recognize handwritten shopping lists. Shopping Alexa is available via Amazon's website and mobile app.
