Apple iOS 27 Beta5 Shows China Apple Intelligence Nearing Launch with Alibaba Qwen

Apple released the iOS 27 Beta5 update in August 2026. The system's built-in privacy disclosure text indicates that China-market Apple Intelligence has entered the launch preparation stage. This version operates under a framework aligned with domestic regulations, prioritizing on-device processing of user commands, with security mechanisms provided by local partners and system components supporting automatic download and updates.

Hardware eligibility thresholds remain consistent with previously announced standards. Only the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, the full iPhone 16 series, and subsequent new models can enable the related AI capabilities, while standard iPhone models powered by the A17 or earlier chips cannot run them. The China version differs from its overseas counterpart, having adjusted the cloud call chain to meet compliance requirements, and some features dependent on overseas computing power will not be launched. Localization optimization focuses on scenarios including Chinese-language understanding, image and text recognition, and cross-app task scheduling.

Alibaba's Qwen large model will be integrated into the China-market Apple Intelligence system, covering all domestic devices across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS, providing multimodal capabilities such as text understanding, image recognition, and content generation. Apple Intelligence includes upgraded Siri, on-screen content recognition, text rewriting, smart summaries, and image editing, with support for continuous dialogue and cross-App operations.

Higher-specification on-device large models carry additional restrictions and are only available to devices equipped with 12GB of memory, pending further regulatory review.
