For the iPhone Ultra, to accommodate a larger high-energy-density battery, a high-spec periscope telephoto module, and a compact vapor chamber for heat dissipation, the internal stacking has entirely abandoned the traditional dual-sided nano-SIM physical card tray structure, adopting a pure eSIM technical solution. This hardware design faces policy and technical compliance barriers when entering the mainland Chinese market.
Currently, mainland China has implemented commercial eSIM services in wearables and certain IoT and connected-vehicle sectors. However, in the smartphone segment, regulators have long maintained a cautious stance toward opening eSIM for smartphones, citing considerations such as real-name registration verification for communications, anti-fraud measures in telecom networks, and network information security protection. Formal large-scale network access approval for pure eSIM smartphones has not yet been granted to the public.

To meet local real-name activation processes, dynamic anti-money-laundering security risk control models, and cross-province number portability verification technical specifications, carrier system backends still require underlying protocol modifications and security authentication joint debugging.
