Boeing and SPEEA Reach Tentative Four-Year Contract With 10% Raise for 17,000 Members

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

Boeing and the union representing its engineers reached a tentative four-year contract on September 11, 2026, after members overwhelmingly rejected an earlier proposal on August 21. If approved, about 17,000 SPEEA professional and technical unit members would receive a 10% raise on October 16, 2026, followed by 4% annual increases from 2027 through 2030 plus performance-based raises. The current contract expires October 6, 2026, and members could strike if no final deal is reached.

Boeing and the union representing its engineers reached a tentative contract agreement on September 11, 2026. The union said the four-year proposal offers a higher general wage increase than the first proposal. Members of the professional and technical units of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) voted overwhelmingly on August 21, 2026, to reject the first proposal. If the new proposal is approved, about 17,000 SPEEA professional and technical unit members would receive a 10% raise on October 16, 2026, followed by 4% annual raises from 2027 through 2030 as well as performance-based increases.

Ben Nimmegut, Boeing vice president of production engineering and chief engineer for the function, said in a statement that the final contract proposal includes an immediate wage increase and a larger guaranteed wage pool. The union said the latest proposal includes changes to remote-work policy and overtime limits for professional unit members. After rejecting the first proposal, SPEEA members said in an internal survey that their top priority was a higher general wage increase. The SPEEA negotiating team said in a statement that member survey and meeting feedback was incorporated into negotiations with Boeing management.

The current contract expires on October 6, 2026. If no final agreement is reached by then, SPEEA members could strike. SPEEA members work on Boeing's certification of the 737 MAX 10 and 777-9 aircraft, both of which are years behind schedule. The first proposal offered a general wage increase of 3%. Data published in July 2026 showed that the consumer price index in the Seattle area rose 4.5% over the past year, and most SPEEA members work in that region. SPEEA has not negotiated a new contract with Boeing for Northwest members since 2012, and members approved contract extensions in 2016 and 2020.
