Chery Sees 300 GWh Annual Battery Demand by 2030, Plans Over RMB 50 Billion Investment
Chery Automobile Vice President Gu Chunshan said the company expects its annual battery demand to exceed 300 GWh by 2030, driven by full electrification across its businesses. Chery plans cumulative investment of over RMB 50 billion in self-developed and self-manufactured batteries, and will partner with leading battery makers. In March 2026, Chery launched its Rhino battery.
Gu Chunshan, vice president of Chery Automobile, said at a conference that Chery has grown into a multi-industry group covering automobiles, ships, embodied robots, and green energy ecosystems. Batteries serve as a key energy carrier within this ecosystem, and Chery will push for full electrification across its major businesses.
Chery plans cumulative investment of more than RMB 50 billion in self-developed and self-manufactured batteries, and will pursue cooperation and joint ventures with leading battery companies. In March 2026, Chery launched its Rhino battery.
