Doubao Phone Assistant Consumer Version Launches September 14 on Nubia NaviX Ultra

On September 14, 2026, ByteDance officially released the consumer version of its Doubao Phone Assistant. Built on the Doubao app and developed with phone manufacturers at the system level, the assistant explores AI applications on phones around core experiences including interaction, task execution, local memory and retrieval. Compared with the technical preview launched in late 2025, the consumer version places greater emphasis on stability and everyday usability. It supports multiple wake methods, including voice and a dedicated AI key, to suit different usage scenarios. The dedicated AI key carries fingerprint authentication capability, allowing users to invoke the assistant to perform tasks after identity verification without a second unlock. For voice wake, Doubao Phone Assistant has been optimized for far-field, internal-noise and noisy environments.

For screen question-and-answer capability, users can have the assistant continue processing tasks based on current screen content without taking extra screenshots or switching apps. In an official video demonstration, a user opens the camera and points it at an indoor environment, saying, "Based on this decoration style, help me choose a cabinet within 1.2 meters and priced no more than 1,000 yuan." Doubao then combines the visual information and user requirements to find matching products on e-commerce platforms. The "operate phone" feature, which drew widespread attention after the technical preview release, is now open in Beta form. Doubao Phone Assistant introduced the Screen Automation Execution Protocol (SAEP) and simultaneously began a 30-day public comment period on its rules. Under the protocol, third-party apps can independently declare operational boundaries, specifying whether to allow or refuse screen automation by the AI assistant within their apps. Doubao Phone Assistant said it will not perform automated operations on third-party apps that explicitly refuse such operations.

On privacy and security, Doubao Phone Assistant follows the principles of "reasonable necessity" and "user autonomous control" in data collection and processing, and has established an Agent protection system that manages the operable scope in tiers and levels. For personal context and memory capability, Doubao Phone Assistant provides a search tool for local data, enabling retrieval of photos, text messages, notes and other information when users need it. In task execution, taking travel as an example, a user says, "Help me call a car to the office," and Doubao can confirm the frequently used address, select a vehicle type and initiate an order. The first consumer version of Doubao Phone Assistant will be carried on the Nubia NaviX Ultra phone. Pre-orders are now open, and it will officially go on sale on September 16, 2026.
