Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

FedEx launched FedEx Life Sciences in 2026, focusing on healthcare logistics. The unit generates about $10 billion in annual revenue, over 10% of total. Chief Customer Officer Brie Carere said the medical logistics market opportunity is about $80 billion, with 7% CAGR, including 20% growth for GLP-1 drugs and 25% for cell and gene therapies. FedEx uses five temperature zones and real-time tracking; 40% of medical clients use FedEx Surround. Competitor UPS invested $48 million in its network, reporting $11.2 billion in medical revenue. FedEx CEO Raj Subramanian said nearly half of revenue growth is from B2B. FedEx targets $98 billion revenue by 2029.

FedEx launched the FedEx Life Sciences unit in 2026, focusing on healthcare logistics. The unit consolidates the company's long-standing investments in temperature-controlled transport and end-to-end monitoring, covering the entire chain from manufacturing facilities and warehouses to laboratories, pharmacies and patients. FedEx said its medical logistics business generates about $10 billion in annual revenue, representing more than 10% of total company revenue.

Chief Customer Officer Brie Carere said the medical logistics market opportunity is about $80 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 7% over the next six years. Within that, GLP-1 drugs (such as Eli Lilly's Mounjaro and Zepbound) are growing at about 20%, while cell and gene therapies are growing at about 25%. FedEx's medical warehouse at its global headquarters in Memphis has five temperature zones, including a freezer at minus 150 degrees Celsius for storing sensitive pharmaceuticals. FedEx uses real-time tracking platforms FedEx Surround and SenseAware, and about 40% of its medical clients already use FedEx Surround. The platform uses machine learning to predict transport disruptions so that routes can be adjusted in advance.

Competitor UPS last month announced a $48 million investment to expand its temperature-controlled medical network, adding facilities in Europe, Asia and the Americas. UPS said its 2025 medical business revenue was $11.2 billion. Cardinal Health is both a FedEx customer and a strategic partner; the two have worked together since 2013, providing joint customers access to dozens of warehouses and distribution centers across the United States.

FedEx Chief Executive Officer Raj Subramanian said on the fiscal third-quarter 2026 earnings call that nearly half of revenue growth was driven by B2B services. At its investor day in February, FedEx said it plans to achieve $98 billion in revenue by 2029 through optimizing its B2B and B2C operations. After the spin-off of FedEx Freight as a separate publicly traded company on June 1, FedEx's current annual revenue is about $86 billion. FedEx emphasized that reducing handoffs and strengthening end-to-end control in medical logistics is key to lowering risk, and its global network can cover air freight, small parcel delivery, customs clearance and quality control.
