Ferrari Luce, First Production EV, Fetches $40 Million at Charity Auction

The first Ferrari Luce, "car number one" of the marque's debut production electric vehicle, sold for $40 million at an RM Auctions sale in Monterey, California. The model was designed with deep involvement from Jony Ive, former chief design officer at Apple, and his LoveFrom studio. This particular car, bearing chassis number zero, features exclusive custom details, including Madreperla semi-matte paintwork, Perla-toned leather seats with a Le Mans metallic finish, and Grigio Corvara gray interior trim.

The auction was a charitable event, with the full $40 million in proceeds donated to Save the Children. The regular Luce carries a starting price of approximately $600,000, while the special auction lot opened at a $1 million starting bid. Bidding climbed rapidly to $5 million before settling at $40 million. The result is one of the highest prices ever recorded for a Ferrari at auction. For reference, a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM changed hands for $40.3 million in 2025.

On performance, the Ferrari Luce is powered by four electric motors producing a combined 1,035 horsepower, with a 0 to 60 miles per hour acceleration time of 2.5 seconds. Visually, the car adopts a soft pastel color palette and a silhouette closer to conventional road models, marking a departure from Ferrari's traditional supercar design language.
