Google Unveils Pixel 11 Series, Adds Tap-to-Share to Quick Share, Starting with Pixel 6

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

Google announced an upgrade to its AirDrop-like Quick Share feature during Wednesday's Pixel 11 series launch, introducing a new tap-to-share mode that begins rolling out immediately. The feature lets Android users exchange contact details, photos, and videos by bringing two devices close together. It will first reach Pixel 6 and newer models, with support for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 foldables to follow. This mirrors Apple's NameDrop introduced in iOS 17.

Google announced an upgrade to its Quick Share feature—similar to Apple's AirDrop—during Wednesday's launch of the new Pixel 11 series, introducing a new tap-to-share mode that begins rolling out to users immediately. The feature allows Android users to bring two devices close together to quickly exchange contact information, photos, videos, and other content. In practice, users simply bring their device near another compatible device to initiate an instant two-way exchange; alternatively, they can select content in the system's share menu and gently tap the devices together to complete the transfer.

Previously, Apple introduced NameDrop, an NFC-based feature in iOS 17 that lets users share contact cards and media files by touching iPhones together. The new tap-to-share mode for Quick Share will first be pushed to Pixel 6 and newer models, with subsequent coverage expanding to Samsung foldables including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8.
