HP Confirms Windows 11 Update Caused Boot Failures, Releases BIOS F.07.Rev.A Fix

Since August 2026, some HP laptop users have reported system abnormalities after installing Windows 11 updates including KB5121003. The update was released by Microsoft in August 2026 and was included in the September 2026 updates. Some users also manually downloaded and reinstalled the update, with the same result.

Temporary workaround steps include: press and hold the power button to force a shutdown, press the power button and immediately press F10 until the BIOS setup appears, then press F9 to load BIOS setup defaults, press F10 to save and exit, and the system should start normally after a restart. After resetting BIOS settings, some custom settings will be lost, including enabled hardware virtualization, fTPM, PXE, and modified boot settings. These options will not be retained after the reset, and users can re-enter BIOS to configure them again.

HP has confirmed that the issue is related to the Windows 11 update and has released BIOS firmware update F. 07. Rev. A (sp174502. exe) to fix the problem. In the update log, HP stated that the firmware update improves system stability when running Windows 11 updates. The firmware was released on September 4, 2026.
