Intel Reportedly Developing Budget Panther Lake Handheld Chip with 4 Xe Cores

Intel is developing a Panther Lake chip for the handheld gaming market, with specifications including 4 performance cores, 0 efficiency cores, 4 low-power efficiency cores, and 4 Xe GPU cores. The configuration is sharply reduced compared with the Arc G3 series (10 Xe cores) and G3 Extreme (12 Xe cores), which were released earlier in 2026. The G3 series itself had already trimmed CPU cores while retaining GPU core counts, aiming to deliver graphics performance for handheld devices.

Over the past few months, handheld device prices have risen overall, with devices powered by the G3 Extreme now priced close to mid-to-high-end gaming PCs. The current market faces elevated memory and storage prices, as the AI boom has driven up memory demand; even if chip costs decline, storage component prices remain high. The 4 Xe cores deliver less performance than the previous-generation Core Ultra 7 258V's Arc 140V (8 Xe2 cores), but the new chip adopts the newer Xe3 architecture.

Final pricing for the chip has not yet been announced and awaits Intel's official release.
