Lenovo Confirms Legion Go BIOS Update Causing Boot Failures, Offers Free Repairs
Lenovo has formally responded to the BIOS update issue affecting its Legion Go handheld, confirming that some devices failed to boot after installing version N3CN42WW and offering free repair or replacement regardless of warranty status. The update was intended to fix a power button anomaly in Modern Standby mode following an earlier AMD firmware update, but users reported black screens, power-on failures, and red indicator lights. Lenovo's European L2.5 laboratory reproduced the fault on three test devices, though the root cause remains unconfirmed. The company stated the issue was not caused by user error.
Lenovo has formally responded to the issue of a BIOS update causing some Legion Go handheld devices to fail to boot, and said eligible affected devices will receive free repair or replacement services regardless of whether they remain under warranty. The problem involves BIOS version N3CN42WW, which was originally designed to resolve an abnormal power button issue that occurred in Modern Standby mode after a previous AMD firmware update. However, multiple Legion Go users reported that devices became unusable immediately after installing the update, with symptoms including black screens, failure to power on, boot failures, and a red indicator light during startup.
In the early stage of the incident, Lenovo did not publicly explain the situation and quietly removed the relevant BIOS file from its official download page. A Lenovo representative has now confirmed that the company's European L2.5 laboratory reproduced the fault on three test devices. Lenovo has yet to confirm the root cause of the problem.
Lenovo explicitly stated that the situation was not caused by user error, and affected devices will be covered by after-sales protection. For products still under warranty, Lenovo will handle the matter in accordance with warranty policy; even for devices that have passed their warranty period, the company said it will provide free replacement services.
For users who have installed N3CN42WW and whose devices are no longer functioning properly, Lenovo has directed them to contact customer service. Users who have not yet installed the BIOS version have not received any update notification, and Lenovo has not issued further guidance.
