Micron Starts Commercial Production at India Semiconductor Assembly and Test Plant

Micron Technology Chief Executive Sanjay Mehrotra said the semiconductor assembly and test plant in Sanand, Gujarat, has started commercial production. The facility is Micron's first semiconductor assembly and test plant in India and was built with investment of about USD 2.75 billion together with Indian government partners. The first phase has a designed cleanroom space of 500,000 square feet (about 46,452 square meters). Micron has delivered its first India-made memory modules to Dell Technologies for laptops produced for the Indian market.

The Sanand plant processes advanced DRAM and NAND wafers from Micron's global manufacturing network into finished memory and storage products. Micron said the plant plans to package and test tens of millions of chips in 2026 and to raise capacity to hundreds of millions of chips in 2027. The plant does not fabricate wafers and mainly handles downstream processes such as packaging and testing. Memory packaging and testing has traditionally been concentrated in East and Southeast Asia. With the India plant, Micron has added a back-end production base in India to its packaging and testing network.
