Microsoft has confirmed that anomalies experienced by some Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 users while running games after installing the August 2026 update are related to device RGB lighting drivers. Previously, multiple users reported that after the update, game visuals displayed incorrectly, stuttering occurred, and in some cases the system restarted unexpectedly. On systems with such drivers installed, launching specific games triggers the anomaly, with symptoms including unresponsive game clients, automatic shutdowns, device-independent restarts, and the error code EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION.
For now, users can temporarily disable the problematic driver via the registry. The steps are: open Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\inpoutx64, locate the Start value in the right pane, change its data to 4, save, and restart the system to disable the driver.
