Novo Nordisk will collaborate with artificial intelligence company Anthropic to advance drug research using AI tools.

Novo Nordisk said on Wednesday local time that it will use Claude Science, Anthropic's platform built for scientific research, to accelerate drug discovery and development, focusing on scientific problems the two sides believe can deliver the greatest practical impact. Novo Nordisk is the manufacturer of the diabetes and weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy.

According to what the two companies announced, the collaboration was designed from the outset to include strict data governance and human oversight mechanisms, to ensure AI is applied responsibly and in line with Novo Nordisk's ethical norms and compliance standards. Novo Nordisk also plans to use Anthropic's models to further improve its AI-driven software development capabilities.

The collaboration is another example of large pharmaceutical companies stepping up their push into AI in recent times. Several major drugmakers, including Eli Lilly, Merck and Roche, are making large bets on AI in the hope of discovering and producing drugs faster. Although some AI-discovered drug candidates have entered human clinical trials, AI has not yet led to any approved drug coming to market.

In the AI field, Novo Nordisk has already partnered with several companies. Earlier in 2026, the Danish drugmaker announced a collaboration with OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and established an AI innovation center together with Amazon Web Services.
