Nvidia Releases Driver 616.64 with DLSS 5 Support, Flicker Issue Unresolved

Nvidia has launched GeForce Game Ready Driver 616.64, WHQL-certified, adding support for DLSS 5 and several new games. However, users report persistent display flickering that began with the previous driver 616.56. Nvidia acknowledges the issue and says a fix will come in a future update, not a separate hotfix. Temporary workarounds include switching to 10-bit color, enabling Windows automatic color management, or using an HDMI connection.

Nvidia has officially released its new GeForce Game Ready Driver, version 616.64, which is WHQL-certified. The primary purpose of this driver is to support DLSS 5 technology and several of the latest games. Following the release, numerous users reported severe display anomalies, and the flickering issue was not resolved in the new version.

The display flickering problem first appeared in the previously released Game Ready Driver 616.56. That version was intended to optimize new titles such as Star Wars: Zero Company, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, and Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, while also fixing V-Sync and DLSS Frame Generation issues in certain games. After the update, many users reported random screen flickering.

According to user feedback, the flickering occurs not only during gaming but also on the Windows desktop, in web browsers, and during video playback. Some users experienced sudden brightness changes, brief screen blackouts, abnormal color saturation, or color distortion, with the display sometimes returning to normal after moving the mouse.

The known affected graphics cards range from the RTX 2000 series onward, covering a wide range of GeForce GPUs. Nvidia has confirmed awareness of the situation, with company staff stating on the official forum that the engineering team is testing a fix and acknowledging that the display driver has a problem. Because the fix could not be completed in time for the current driver release, it was not included in the DLSS 5 driver.

Based on published information, Nvidia plans to address the issue through a future driver update and will not release a separate hotfix. Users who have already upgraded to the latest driver must wait for a future version to receive an official fix. Until an official patch arrives, the community has compiled several temporary workarounds, including switching the display output from 8-bit to 10-bit color mode, enabling Windows automatic color management, using an HDMI connection, adjusting the Windows multi-plane overlay settings, or rolling back to an earlier driver version.
