Starbucks Cuts 200+ Corporate Jobs in Drive for $2 Billion Savings by Fiscal 2028
Starbucks is eliminating more than 200 corporate roles, including about 120 technology positions and 104 café design and development jobs, as part of a plan to cut $2 billion in costs by fiscal 2028. The cuts follow refusals by some staff to relocate to Nashville, where the company is building a new office for 2000 employees. The coffee chain, under CEO Brian Niccol, also closed underperforming stores and previously reduced 300 US corporate jobs in early 2026.
Starbucks will cut more than 200 corporate employees as it continues to streamline operations. The company said it plans to eliminate about 120 technology positions because some employees declined to relocate to Nashville, Tennessee, where a new office campus is under construction. In addition, it will cut 104 café design and development roles. Starbucks is working to reduce costs by $2 billion by the end of fiscal 2028 while increasing investment in store operations. The company recently estimated that its US stores are nearly fully staffed and that most in-store and drive-thru orders are delivered within four minutes. Under current Chief Executive Officer Brian Niccol, Starbucks is conducting a comprehensive review of its existing stores, closing locations that are underperforming, cannot provide the desired store environment, or need to be relocated. Niccol said Starbucks needs to focus on operational execution to better serve that strategy. Earlier in 2026, Starbucks cut 300 US corporate employees and closed regional offices in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and Burbank, California. The company is now spending $100 million to build a new office complex in Nashville that will house 2000 employees, spanning functions such as technology and supply chain. Starbucks cut about 2,000 corporate employees in 2025, while also eliminating several hundred open positions and closing a number of US stores.
