Taylor Farms Recalls Jalapeño Salsa and Guacamole on Salmonella Risk as 345 Sick in 27 States

Taylor Farms announced on August 9, 2026, a voluntary recall of prepared foods containing jalapeños, including salsa and guacamole, due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall follows a voluntary recall of fresh peppers by Coast Citrus Distributors. The company has stopped sourcing from a farmer in Sinaloa, Mexico, identified as a potential source of the salmonella outbreak.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration announced earlier this week that they are investigating the salmonella outbreak, which has sickened 345 people in 27 states, with 36 hospitalizations. The investigation found that restaurants including Chipotle Mexican Grill and Qdoba received jalapeños imported by Coast Citrus; both restaurants have stopped using the peppers, and Coast Citrus has recalled remaining products and notified customers. Taylor Farms said it has not received any reports of illness linked to the voluntarily recalled products.

Salmonella infection can cause diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, and is especially severe for young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Taylor Farms had previously come under scrutiny over a cyclospora outbreak. The FDA linked cyclosporiasis to the company's products from central Mexico, but as of August 5, the company said the FDA had not confirmed positive cyclospora samples on its lettuce. Taylor Farms has voluntarily suspended all iceberg lettuce sourcing and production from central Mexico and commissioned a safety review.
