Tesla China Cuts Model 3 and Model Y Prices; Recent Buyers Seek Compensation

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

Tesla China announced a limited-time price cut on September 7, 2026, reducing in-stock Model 3 vehicles by RMB 5,000 and Model Y vehicles by RMB 10,000, with five-year zero-interest financing and an RMB 8,000 paint option, bringing starting prices to RMB 222,500 and RMB 253,500. Some owners who recently took delivery filed group complaints over the price change, seeking extended warranties or alternative compensation. Tesla customer service said such requests cannot be met.

A third-party automotive complaint platform shows that Tesla's Model Y has recently drawn group complaints from owners, with the stated reason generally being "sales issue, price change." Most of the vehicles involved are 2026 models. One complaining owner said he took delivery of a 2026 Tesla Model Y rear-wheel-drive version on August 26, 2026, and that while the car still had temporary plates, Tesla announced a RMB 10,000 price cut on September 7, 2026 for the same configuration. The owner said he hoped Tesla would show consideration for owners, for example by extending the vehicle warranty or the battery, motor and electronic control warranty. Another complaining owner said the price fell by RMB 10,000 less than a month after delivery and asked Tesla to provide compensation, including alternative measures such as charging credits, interior options and FSD-related benefits.

Tesla China announced a limited-time price cut on September 7, 2026. For orders placed and vehicles delivered between that day and September 30, 2026, all in-stock Model 3 vehicles are reduced by RMB 5,000 and all in-stock Model Y vehicles by RMB 10,000. The offers can be combined with five-year zero-interest financing and an RMB 8,000 paint option benefit. Starting prices for the two models fall to RMB 222,500 and RMB 253,500 respectively. Tesla's official customer service and store sales staff both said they received notice only that day. Regarding owners' compensation requests, Tesla customer service said they cannot be met. Tesla has adjusted prices in China multiple times before, and has rarely given clear advance notice on new models and price changes.
