Tesla China Denies Shanghai Data Center Exit, Says FSD Preparation on Track

A netizen recently claimed that Tesla's Shanghai data center, set up specifically for FSD (Full Self-Driving Supervised) preparation for entry into China, had been "emptied" with the entire liaison team withdrawn. On August 26, Tesla China responded that the report was false.

Public information shows that Tesla's FSD data compliance and localization preparations in China are still advancing. The Tesla Shanghai data center has achieved full retention of domestic data, and the AI training center in Shanghai Lingang began operations in February 2026, with cooperation with Baidu Maps for compliant high-precision maps. Earlier, Tesla's relevant vehicle models passed four automotive data security standard certifications, laying the foundation for further FSD adaptation to the Chinese market and data compliance.

Recently, netizens noticed that Tesla's North America website updated the global list of regions where FSD Supervised subscription is available. The latest list shows only 12 regions worldwide currently offer FSD Supervised subscriptions: the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, and Belgium. China is not on the list. Upon verification, the list only covers regions where FSD Supervised "subscription" services can be activated, and does not equate to all regions where FSD Supervised can actually be used. Since the Chinese market has not yet launched FSD Supervised subscription services, China does not appear on this list. On Tesla's US website, China still appears on the list of regions where FSD Supervised can be used.

In February 2026, Tesla Global Vice President Tao Lin said Tesla would actively participate in the development of China's assisted driving sector. She also revealed that although Tesla has not yet pushed the "full version FSD" to Chinese users, the company has been adapting for the Chinese market, has a training center in China, and has deployed training capabilities tailored to the Chinese market in advance.
