Tesla to Unveil European Semi Truck Specs at Hanover IAA Show
Tesla plans to expand its Semi electric truck from North America into Europe's heavy-truck market, where rivals already sell battery-powered models. The company will disclose European specifications and launch details at the IAA Transportation trade show in Hanover, Germany, next week. The Semi was unveiled in 2017, entered limited US deliveries in late 2022 including to PepsiCo, and in April 2026 Tesla said the first unit rolled off a high-volume line in Nevada.
Tesla plans to bring its Semi electric truck to Europe, extending the business from North America into the European heavy-truck market, where competitors already sell battery-powered models. Tesla said it will announce European specifications and launch details at the IAA Transportation trade show in Hanover, Germany, next week. The European push comes nearly a decade after Tesla unveiled the Semi in 2017; the company initially planned to start production in 2019, but that timetable was repeatedly delayed as it prioritized battery cell supply for passenger vehicles.
Tesla began limited deliveries in the United States in late 2022 to customers including PepsiCo. In April 2026, Tesla said the first Semi rolled off a high-volume production line in Nevada. However, a July 2026 shareholder update only mentioned that Semi production would begin in 2026 and removed an earlier forecast of reaching volume production that year. A version listed on Tesla's German website has a range of up to 550 kilometers (342 miles) at a 40-tonne gross combination weight, with energy consumption of about 1 kilowatt-hour per kilometer.
The company said the truck weighs about 9,100 kilograms without a trailer or cargo and can provide up to 25 kilowatts of electric power take-off output. Using the Tesla Megacharger network, the vehicle can recover about 60% of its range in 30 minutes; Tesla says the network can output up to 800 kilowatts. Tesla also cited route-based charging scheduling and dedicated service centers aimed at reducing vehicle downtime.
