Tesla's Shanghai-Made Six-Seat Model Y L Faces Rear Sag Complaints

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

Owners of Tesla's Shanghai-built six-seat Model Y L report rear suspension sag, with reduced wheel-arch gaps and abnormal tire wear after heavy loads or long trips. Some vehicles showed issues within 9,000 km, while others appeared after 30,000 km. Tesla has not publicly responded; customer service advises dealership inspections, and warranty covers spring replacement only if clearance falls below 764 mm.

Less than a year after its launch, the six-seat flagship SUV Model Y L, produced at Tesla's Shanghai factory, has drawn complaints from multiple owners about rear suspension sag. After fully loaded trips or long-distance driving, the gap between the rear wheel arch and the tire narrows noticeably, and in severe cases, a finger can no longer fit into the space.

One owner reported sagging after a long-distance, fully loaded journey at just 9,000 km on the odometer, with the rear of the vehicle visibly lowered. Another owner encountered a similar issue after 30,000 km, leaving only a two-finger gap at the rear wheels, accompanied by body sway while driving and a risk of scraping the underbody. Discussions on social media have continued to gain traction.

The sagging has also led to secondary damage. The lowered suspension alters wheel alignment, causing abnormal wear on the inner edges of the tires, with some tires already worn down to the safety tread indicators. Tesla has not yet issued a public response. Customer service has advised affected owners to schedule a dealership inspection, with results based on the physical check.

According to after-sales staff, the rear wheel-arch height is considered normal within a range of 784 ± 20 mm, and spring replacement is supported only when the measurement falls below 764 mm. Springs can be replaced free of charge during the warranty period, but tire wear costs are borne by the owner.
