WeChat iOS Tests Hold-to-Convert Voice-to-Text Feature

WeChat has introduced a new 'hold to convert to text' feature in a recent update. By long-pressing a chat message bubble, users can directly convert voice messages into text, accompanied by a 'hold to convert to text' prompt. On August 21, the topic 'WeChat hold to convert to text' became a trending search, sparking widespread discussion. The feature currently cannot be manually disabled, and the method for copying and pasting content has also been adjusted following the update.

Tencent customer service previously explained that 'hold to convert to text' is a function of the WeChat input box. Users can long-press the chat input field, hold the microphone icon to speak, and upon release, the voice will be automatically converted to text. The feature is currently only undergoing gray-scale testing on the iOS client, while Android and HarmonyOS versions are still in development. If users have a relatively new version of WeChat, they may check system update status to see if they are eligible for the support.
