Xiaomi Files Patent for Dual Emblem Lifting System to Prevent Theft and Cut Drag

Xiaomi has submitted a utility model patent titled "Emblem Lifting Device and Vehicle." The patent proposes a new lifting emblem design that simplifies structure and reduces weight, aiming to lessen the impact on vehicle driving range. The patent description notes that at high speed, the emblem can lower flush with the vehicle body to reduce the drag coefficient, thereby optimizing energy consumption.

The design features dual emblems, comprising a premium gold-plated, titanium-coated emblem and a standard material emblem. The vehicle is equipped with a motor and guide rails, enabling automatic flip-switching between emblems at curves. According to the patent specification, when the emblem senses physical contact, it automatically retracts the premium version and flips out the standard one, preventing theft or damage.

Recent related tests showed that someone extracted 0.3 grams of gold from the gold emblem of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra model. A Redmi product manager publicly stated that the emblem's value has reached the threshold for theft sentencing. The incident has drawn attention to emblem security, and the patent's automatic retraction feature may be designed to address such risks. The patent remains in the application stage and is still far from mass production.
