Xiaomi Unveils Kunlun Architecture and Pengcheng Series of Two Extended-Range SUVs; June 2026 Sales Down 25.2%

On July 30, 2026, Xiaomi released the Kunlun Technology Architecture and two extended-range SUVs under the Pengcheng series. The models are positioned as large seven-seat extended-range SUVs, with an entry price lower than that of previous comparable models. After the launch, Xiaomi did not disclose pre-order numbers, only saying that the physical cars have entered showrooms in more than 100 cities. In the first half of 2026, the penetration rate of China's new-energy vehicle market reached 56.9%. As of the same period, the total number of charging piles nationwide exceeded 23 million. In June 2026, sales of extended-range models fell 25.2% year on year, with their market share shrinking to 6.4%. An extended-range vehicle is an electric vehicle equipped with a small petrol engine that generates electricity to supplement range when power is low. Li Auto previously entered the high-end market through extended-range technology, but has recently shifted towards a pure-electric product line. BYD and other manufacturers have raised the pure-electric range of plug-in hybrid models to more than 200 kilometres. Xiaomi's Pengcheng series emphasises 'intelligent adaptable large space', but detailed technical specifications have not been disclosed. The launch of the series comes amid a tightening of the new-energy vehicle purchase tax exemption policy and the accelerated rollout of ultra-fast charging networks.
