Xiaomi Unveils Self-Developed 3nm Chip Xuanjie O3, Made by TSMC for Foldable Flagship

Xiaomi launched its second self-developed smartphone processor, Xuanjie O3, on August 24, exactly one year after its first chip. The 3nm chip, produced by TSMC and already in mass production, will power the company's flagship foldable phone, marking a step toward reducing reliance on external suppliers.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi on August 24 unveiled its latest self-developed smartphone processor, the Xuanjie O3, exactly one year after the release of its first in-house chip, the Xuanjie O1. The move marks another step for the world's third-largest smartphone vendor in self-developed chip technology, joining the ranks of Apple, Samsung Electronics, and Huawei, which design their own processors. Xiaomi aims to strengthen supply chain resilience and reduce dependence on external chip suppliers by gaining greater control over key components.

According to two people familiar with the matter, Taiwan chip giant TSMC will produce the new chip using 3-nanometer process technology. The Xuanjie O3 has already entered mass production.

Smartphone processors, also known as system-on-chips, integrate computing, graphics, AI processing, and imaging functions into a single chip.
