China Alcohol Association Revokes Wine Region Certifications and Halts Award Events
The China Alcoholic Drinks Association has revoked official certifications for six wine sub-regions, including Xinjiang Manas and Shandong Penglai, cancelled titles such as "China Brandy First Manor," and suspended multiple competitions. The cleanup, launched in July, follows new social organization evaluation regulations effective August 1, 2026, and invalidates previously published award results across numerous renamed programs.
The Zunyi City Liquor Association has issued an announcement revoking previously awarded titles such as "China Sauce-aroma Liquor Brewing Master," with all notices, announcements, and public disclosures related to such work over the years hereby abolished. The announcement stated that no unit or individual may conduct activities under these titles, nor use them for publicity, promotion, or external liaison.
The China Alcoholic Drinks Association has been cleaning up evaluation and commendation matters since July, issuing more than 10 related notices that month covering activity renamings and result invalidations, title revocations and evaluation suspensions, certification revocations, and factual clarifications. The cleanup aims to implement the "Measures for the Administration of Evaluation and Commendation Activities of Social Organizations" issued by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Central Social Work Department, effective August 1, 2026. Some notices also cite the "Negative List of Related Activities for Decoupled National Industry Associations and Chambers of Commerce" issued by the General Office of the Central Social Work Department.
The association revoked all brewing industry specialty region evaluations and grants bearing the "China" designation, including titles in the format "China XX (Capital, Base, City, Garden, District, Township, Town, Street) · Region Name" and "World Fine Wine Specialty Region." All previously granted related titles were revoked regardless of whether they had expired. At the same time, official certifications for six wine sub-regions — Xinjiang Manas, Shandong Penglai, Qinhuangdao Jieshi Mountain, Beijing Fangshan, Shanxi Xiangning, and Beijing Miyun Yanshan South Foothills — were revoked, along with the title categories "China Brandy First Manor," "China Brandy Chief Master," and "China Wine Promotion Ambassador." In addition, seven wine industry culture-related certification projects were revoked, including "China Wine Industry Living Cultural Heritage Certification," "China Wine Industry Cultural IP Certification," and "China Wine Industry Writer Certification," as well as the inaugural "China Wine Industry Cultural Operations Classic Cases," "China Wine Industry Outstanding Cultural Workers," "China Wine Industry Outstanding Cultural Heritage Workers," and "China Wine Industry Cultural Heritage Operations Classic Cases."
Multiple wine product evaluation activities were renamed, with their original activity names and evaluation results voided. "National Rational Drinking Publicity Week" was renamed "China Alcoholic Drinks Association Rational Drinking Publicity Week," and "China Wine Culture Month" was renamed "China Alcoholic Drinks Association Wine Culture Month." The "2025 Grain Brewing Cooking Wine Yunwei Award Product Evaluation Activity" was renamed the "2024 Annual Grain Brewing Cooking Wine New Product Competition"; the "2026 TGA Grain Brewing Cooking Wine Yunwei Award Product Evaluation Activity" was renamed the "2025 Annual Grain Brewing Cooking Wine New Product Competition"; the "2025 Annual TGA Qingzhuo Award Wine New Product Evaluation Activity" was renamed the "2025 Annual Wine New Product Competition"; and the "2024 Annual Qingzhuo Award Wine New Product Evaluation Activity" was corrected to the "2024 Annual Wine New Product Competition." All related articles and award results published under the previous names were voided and revoked.
The former "Fifth 'Lvliang Cup' Qingxiang Baijiu 'Qingzun Award' and 'Ten Little Golden Flowers' Enterprise Evaluation Activity" was renamed the "2025 Annual Lvliang Qingxiang Baijiu Product Competition and Lvliang Qingxiang Baijiu Enterprise Competition," with previously published related articles and award results voided and the official valid award list subject to the new announcement.
The results of the "2025 China Wine Industry Intellectual Property Protection Model Cases" and "Outstanding Corporate Legal Teams" solicitation activities, organized by the association's Intellectual Property Protection Committee in 2025 and announced on September 28, 2025, were revoked due to non-standard procedures identified during review and assessment. The evaluation and granting of "China Alcoholic Drinks Association Integrity Demonstration Store" and "Integrity Liquor Merchant" titles was fully suspended, with all previously granted related titles still within validity revoked. Three events — the "China International Wine Marselan Competition," "China International Wine Competition," and "Wine China Appraisal System-JD. com Wine Sensory Evaluation Activity" — were halted. On the organizational front, the association dissolved nearly 30 wine industry research institutes, special centers, and industrial bases, terminating all related affairs; no unit or individual may conduct activities under these names or use them for publicity, promotion, or external liaison.
