China Passenger Car Retail Sales Fall 22% YoY in Aug 1-9; NEV Down 17%
Data released by the China Passenger Car Association showed that from Aug. 1 to 9, 2026, retail sales of passenger cars nationwide totaled 317,000 units, down 22% year on year and 3% from the previous period. Since the start of 2026, cumulative retail sales of passenger cars reached 10.49 million units, down 20% year on year.
During the same period, retail sales of new-energy passenger cars totaled 195,000 units, down 17% year on year and 4% from the previous period. Since the start of 2026, cumulative retail sales of new-energy passenger cars reached 5.864 million units, down 13% year on year.
