China's Medical Insurance Bureau Holds Pharma Industry Forum, Spending Reaches 13 Trillion Yuan
China's National Healthcare Security Administration convened a pharmaceutical industry symposium, with Director Zhang Ke stating that the country's medical insurance system, as the largest strategic buyer in the domestic drug market, has spent approximately 13 trillion yuan during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. The bureau will continue to refine pricing mechanisms and expand centralized procurement to foster a unified national market.
Zhang Ke, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the National Healthcare Security Administration, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Zhang noted that China's medical insurance, as the largest strategic purchaser in the domestic pharmaceutical market, has accumulated expenditures of approximately 13 trillion yuan during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), maintaining a relatively high growth rate and providing stable funding for the high-quality development of the pharmaceutical industry. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), the medical insurance department will continue to improve the pricing mechanism for drugs and medical consumables, standardize, institutionalize, and regularize centralized volume-based procurement of drugs and consumables, and promote the construction of a unified national pharmaceutical procurement market to better stimulate market vitality and foster fair competition.
