China's Commerce Ministry Opposes US 232 Tariffs on Drones, Urges Withdrawal

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

China's Ministry of Commerce on August 20 firmly opposed the United States' decision to impose Section 232 tariffs on drones and drone components, urging Washington to immediately revoke the measures. Spokesperson He Yadong said the tariffs constitute unilateralism and protectionism under the guise of national security, discriminate against Chinese products, harm Chinese corporate interests, and disrupt global drone supply chains.

He Yadong, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce, responded to questions on US drone tariffs at a regular press conference held on August 20, saying that China has noted the US decision to impose Section 232 tariffs on drones and drone components. China has consistently held that the US Section 232 measures represent unilateralism and protectionism carried out in the name of "national security." Chinese drones exported to the United States are mainly used in civilian scenarios such as agriculture, equipment inspection, and film and entertainment.

He Yadong pointed out that the US Section 232 measures overextend the concept of national security, apply differentiated tariff rates to trading partners, and treat Chinese products in a discriminatory manner. These actions severely undermine the interests of Chinese enterprises, disrupt the cooperative order of the global drone industrial and supply chains, and further damage the fair competitive market environment. China is firmly opposed to these measures and urges the United States to immediately revoke the relevant Section 232 tariff measures.
