House Democrats Plan Trump-Linked Probes if They Retake Chamber in 2026

House Democrats are preparing an investigation strategy targeting companies and financial firms linked to President Donald Trump, rather than moving immediately toward impeachment. Senior Democrats and committee staff have discussed using hearings, subpoenas, and document requests to obtain records from entities tied to Trump's political and business circles. The approach is designed to gather information by scrutinizing private businesses and external financial players, avoiding a direct confrontation with the White House.

Three sources said Apple, Alphabet, Palantir, Blackstone, BlackRock, and Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, were mentioned in connection with contracts, regulatory matters, or government dealings. No final target list has been determined, and no formal investigation has been initiated.

Democrats also plan to examine Trump-related financial vehicles, including 1789 Capital, where his son Donald Trump Jr. serves as partner, as well as foreign sovereign wealth funds. Senior Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the Judiciary Committee said existing investigations would expand if Democrats secure the House in November 2026.

Democrats have begun sending letters to companies, contractors, and other organizations requesting records and laying groundwork for subpoenas. The letters involve media company Paramount Skydance, video platform YouTube and its parent Alphabet, private prison operator GEO Group, and security firm Salus Worldwide Solutions. These companies may currently ignore the requests, but the letters mark them as potential targets. Preparatory work for the investigations is underway, with final targets and timelines not yet publicly disclosed.
