Hubei Listed Companies Top RMB 2 Trillion as Wuhan and Optics Valley Drive Market Value

Changjiang Industry Group released its 2026 Hubei listed-company report on September 17, 2026. Hubei's 154 A-share listed companies exceeded RMB 2 trillion in total market value at end-2025, ranking tenth nationally and second in central China. Wuhan accounted for RMB 1,204.5 billion, nearly 60% of the provincial total, while Optics Valley's 43 companies represented 32.2% of provincial market value, rising to 45.3% in the first half of 2026.

On September 17, 2026, Changjiang Industry Group released the Hubei Listed Company Development Report (2026). The report shows that in 2025 the market value of Hubei's A-share listed companies exceeded RMB 2 trillion, its research and development intensity ranked third nationwide, and its IPO fundraising scale entered the national top five. At the end of 2025, the national total of A-share listed companies was 5,477. Hubei ranked tenth nationwide and second in central China with 154 companies, behind only Anhui's 186.

As of the end of 2025, among Hubei's 154 A-share listed companies, 45 were in the information technology sector, 32 in industrials, 24 in materials, and 23 in health care, with these four sectors together accounting for more than 85%. The optoelectronic information field involves the supporting industrial chains of Yangtze Memory Technologies and China Star Optoelectronics Technology, among others, while the biomedicine field includes companies such as Humanwell Healthcare, Jointown Pharmaceutical Group, and Healthgen Biotechnology.

In terms of regional distribution, the total market value of listed companies in Wuhan was RMB 1,204.5 billion, accounting for nearly 60% of the provincial total. Optics Valley, with 43 listed companies, covered 32.2% of the province's total market value; in the first half of 2026, the share of Optics Valley listed companies in the provincial total rose to 45.3%.

In 2025, the 154 listed companies in Hubei generated a combined economic value added of RMB 202.5 billion, up 4.04% year on year. CITIC Pacific Special Steel led with economic value added of RMB 21.58 billion, followed by Huaxin Building Materials with RMB 12.95 billion and Jointown Pharmaceutical Group with RMB 10.86 billion. Total tax contributions reached RMB 35.5 billion, up 19.5% year on year, of which Huaxin Building Materials contributed RMB 3.98 billion, CITIC Pacific Special Steel RMB 3.83 billion, and Jointown Pharmaceutical Group RMB 2.94 billion, with the three together accounting for nearly one-third of the province's listed-company tax contributions.

In terms of research and development investment, Hubei listed companies spent a total of RMB 37.1 billion on R&D in 2025, with R&D intensity ranking third nationwide among 14 comparable provinces, behind only Chongqing and Jiangsu. Twenty-nine listed companies had R&D investment intensity exceeding 10%, mainly concentrated in information technology, biomedicine, and high-end equipment industries. Healthgen Biotechnology ranked first with R&D intensity of 193.6%, while leading companies ranged from 18% to 194%, and the provincial average was 3.94%.

The report also lists several structural indicators: in 2025, the combined economic value added of the province's listed companies was RMB 202.5 billion, accounting for 3.23% of GDP; R&D intensity ranked third nationwide, and overall labor productivity ranked 12th nationwide; the securitization rate was 31.9%, the lowest among the six central Chinese provinces.
