Shenzhen Stock Exchange Launches ChiNext Consumer Electronics and Biotech Indices

Shenzhen Securities Information, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, has launched the ChiNext Consumer Electronics Index (code 970089) and the ChiNext Biotechnology Index (code 970087), each with 50 constituent stocks. The two indices cover 85 consumer electronics and 80 biotechnology ChiNext-listed companies, with combined market capitalizations of RMB 2 trillion and RMB 0.9 trillion, respectively. Private enterprises account for more than 90% of the weighting in both.

Shenzhen Securities Information, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, has released the ChiNext Consumer Electronics Index (abbreviated as ChiNext Consumer Electronics, code 970089) and the ChiNext Biotechnology Index (abbreviated as ChiNext Biotechnology, code 970087), further enriching the exchange's "ChiNext Series" index matrix. Both indices select 50 listed companies from the ChiNext market whose main businesses align with the relevant sector, and which have relatively large market capitalizations and good trading liquidity.

On April 10, 2026, the China Securities Regulatory Commission issued the Opinions on Deepening ChiNext Reform to Better Serve the Development of New Quality Productive Forces, proposing to optimize the ChiNext broad-based index system and introduce more ChiNext-related ETF products and options. Since the release of the opinions, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange has successively launched nine thematic indices, including ChiNext Communications, Robotics, Chips and Consumer Electronics, and has introduced ETF products tracking ChiNext computing power and fintech sectors.

As of the end of August 2026, 85 ChiNext-listed companies operated in the consumer electronics sector, with a combined total market capitalization of RMB 2 trillion; 80 listed companies operated in the biotechnology sector, with a total market capitalization of RMB 0.9 trillion. The ChiNext Consumer Electronics Index's constituent weights are concentrated in the mobile phone supply chain, at 77%, while also covering automotive electronics at 13% and wearable devices at 9%. Constituents include Sanhuan Group, Lens Technology and Victory Giant Technology. In the ChiNext Biotechnology Index, medical devices account for 38%, biological products 33% and life sciences services 29%. Constituents include Mindray Medical, Pharmaron and Tigermed. Private enterprises account for more than 90% of the market capitalization weight in both indices.

In the first half of 2026, constituent companies of the ChiNext Consumer Electronics Index recorded year-on-year revenue growth of 26%, with cumulative research and development investment exceeding RMB 13 billion and an average R&D intensity of 8%. Constituent companies of the ChiNext Biotechnology Index recorded year-on-year revenue growth of 6%, with an average R&D intensity of 13%. The ChiNext Consumer Electronics Index covers consumer scenarios such as portable smart terminals, in-vehicle smart equipment and home smart hardware, while the ChiNext Biotechnology Index covers segments including high-end medical equipment, innovative vaccines, biopharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical R&D outsourcing.
