Johnson & Johnson announced on July 27 it has agreed to pay $5.5 billion to resolve about 69,000 US lawsuits alleging its talc-based baby powder caused ovarian cancer. The settlement covers 99.75% of pending cases and requires approval from at least 95% of plaintiffs. The first payment of up to $3 billion is due in 2027, with the remainder after 2028. The company denies the claims and has discontinued talc products globally. The settlement does not cover a separate UK class action.
The Dongguan Digital Human Body and Smart Sleep Innovation Consortium was inaugurated on July 27 at DeRUCCI headquarters, with about 300 attendees. Academician Yin Zhouping was appointed chief scientist, and DeRUCCI CTO Chen Wenze as administrative chief engineer. The consortium launched its proprietary sleep vertical large model, deployed in the T12 series, enabling sleep report generation, personalized plans, and smart home device coordination. Several top hospitals, including Peking University Third Hospital, established AI research wards for home-clinic bidirectional sleep monitoring. The consortium plans a medical-grade sleep data center targeting millions of ergonomic data models and tens of billions of sleep behavior records for early disease warning.
