Hengrui Medicine and Subsidiaries Get Clinical Trial Approvals for Diabetes and IBD Drugs
Hengrui Medicine and its subsidiaries have received clinical trial approval from China's National Medical Products Administration for two drug candidates. HRS-4729 injection, developed with Fujian Shengdi Pharmaceutical, targets type 2 diabetes by activating GLP-1R, GIPR, and GCGR. SHR-7590 injection, developed by subsidiary Guangdong Hengrui Pharmaceutical, is for inflammatory bowel disease and has shown efficacy in animal models. No drug targeting the same mechanism has been approved globally.
Hengrui Medicine and its subsidiaries recently received clinical trial approval notices issued by the National Medical Products Administration. Among them, the clinical trial application for HRS-4729 injection was jointly approved for the company and its subsidiary Fujian Shengdi Pharmaceutical Co. , Ltd. The drug can activate GLP-1R, GIPR, and GCGR to suppress appetite, delay gastric emptying, enhance insulin sensitivity, and promote energy expenditure, thereby achieving weight loss, blood glucose control, and improvement of glucose and lipid metabolism, ultimately for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Another drug, SHR-7590 injection, received clinical trial approval for subsidiary Guangdong Hengrui Pharmaceutical Co. This drug is a therapeutic biological product independently developed by the company. In animal models of inflammatory bowel disease, it can effectively inhibit inflammation, improve disease scores, and intestinal tissue pathology. Currently, no drug targeting the same mechanism has been approved for marketing globally.
