Second-Generation Automotive Silicon Carbide Chips Enter Production
A second-generation automotive-grade silicon carbide main-drive chip and module combination, independently developed and manufactured through collaboration between two companies, has entered production and been installed in vehicles. The combination is intended for automotive applications, and the chips have been optimized for high-voltage, high-frequency extreme operating conditions in vehicles. The second-generation silicon carbide chips now in production have a voltage rating of 1400V.
The two companies achieved volume installation of first-generation silicon carbide chips in mid-2025. Building on that production milestone, they are jointly developing a third-generation full chip series and have obtained intended design wins for main-drive projects from several automakers in the passenger vehicle segment.
